Suggestions for Parish Plan:
1. Develop area around Riverside to include modern children's playground, with benches, flowerbeds etc. so older peope can also enjoy the area.
2. Brighten up the main street with hanging baskets or similar, this would encourage people to use the shops & attract more visitors.
3. Encourage the setting up of a cafe or coffee shop where people can meeting up for tea/coffee/light snacks/cakes & a chat. This would also attract more visitors as people passing through would perhaps stop for a drink, especially if the village looked nicer as a result of more flowers (see 2).
4. Try to utilise the halls we already have rather than building new ones. Why can't the scouts etc. use the Youth & Community centre rather than having their own dedicated hut which requires maintenance, heat, light etc. Why do the brownies use the Village hall rather than sharing with Scouts etc. as they must have to pay to hire it.
5. Improve the Village Hall to make it more welcoming, decorate toilets etc. & brighten the overall appearance.
6. Ban heavy goods vehicles from coming through Banwell - build a low bridge or something so that they can't get through.
7. Introduce 'black box' scheme for recycling - this has been available in Bristol for years.

Sort out the village car park to get rid of the youths who tear up and down there night after night.

have some sort of camera mounted near the village to help prosecute trouble makers and make the village a safer place.

The Parish Council are planning an Open Day on 27th March at the Village Hall. It'll run from 10.00am to 4.00pm and will take the form of large scale displays about key areas such as crime, young people, traffic, the environment, future development. You can either come along on the day and contribute your thoughts or you can send in your thoughts in writing if you can't come along.
Then, on Tuesday 30th March, There will be a public meeting in the Village Hall at 7.30-9.00pm (not 7.00-9.00 as advertised) to debate some of the main issues and see if we can agree the best ways forward. :D

For much more detail on this event visit the news page of the Parish Council at www.banwell.org

Following a successful Open Day and Public Meeting in the village hall in March, the Parish Council would like to thank all those who participated and to let you know what action we will take as a result of your comments. Reports from the Open Day have been displayed in the village library and on the website and I hope that you have had an opportunity to read them. The main issues to come from the events were:

• Traffic and the impact on Banwell
• Litter and cleanliness in the village
• Improvements to the Recreation Ground, to include something for all young people in the village

In next months’ Parish Magazine we will give you an update on Traffic Management and what the Parish Council is doing/is able to do about what is a major problem for the village. In the meantime, we will take forward the concerns about litter/cleanliness and improvement to the recreation ground. Two sub-committees of the Parish Council will take on these issues.

• Councillor Richard Tolmie ( Tel: 820886) will head up the committee on cleanliness
• Councillor Steve Robinson (Tel: 823326) will head up the committee on improvement to the recreation ground.

If you would like to contribute your ideas or to get involved, please contact the relevant Councillors.

North Somerset Council – Useful Telephone Numbers

The litter and cleanliness of the village is to some extent our own problem; we create it, however should you need some extra help, the following telephone numbers at North Somerset Council might be useful:

• Abandoned Vehicles Tel: 01934 634867
• Highways ( maintenance) Tel: 01275 882001
• Refuse Collections (households) Tel: 01934 634886
• Litter (including street cleaning) Tel: 01934 634867
