B.T. has done it again! BT Broadband voice, the service that gives you the ability to make cheap calls over a dedicated telephone number through your broadband line, via a normal telephone and supplied modem, seemed like a cheap way of getting a second phone number in the house. Well, it would have been for me, but as it turns out - not for anyone who phones me. I asked B.T. how much it would cost someone to phone me on one of their new "05" numbers, they didn't know! They referred me to a BT Broadband free phone number, they didn't know! They referred me to a broadband voice free phone number, they knew but really didn't want to tell me. After acting like I was making an irrelevant enquiry because "I would not be phoning myself"!, they finally gave in. The result, a flat rate 5p a minute. When I asked why B.T. were not publicizing this cost along with the other costs of Broadband Voice, why their main enquiry line did not know, they had no answer. After all, some who may have ended up phoning me on my BT Broadband Voice number may not even be online. It seems surprising therefore that the only place the public can find the cost of their call is at the small department of BT Broadband voice. So before you get BT Broadband Voice, think of your friends and their phone bill! Perhaps, after our successful broadband campaign, our village should mount a cable campaign? I myself shall stick to skype!
